About

The Detroit Guitar Trio was founded in 2023 by Scott Walter, Anthony DiMambro, and Ben Chapman. The group formed as extension of colleagues teaching and performing in the metro Detroit area to add to the vibrant guitar community. These three uniquely accomplished musicians bring a new energy and the blue-collar heart of the city to the concert stage.

Scott Walter is the Professor of Classical Guitar at Wayne State University and the
President of the Classical Guitar Society of Michigan where he directs guitar
ensembles, organizes outreach to young guitarists in Michigan, and hosts performers
from all over the United States. He is also the founder of the Detroit Guitar
Conservatory, a music school for classical guitar in Detroit. Scott holds degrees in
classical guitar performance and music theory from Wayne State University.

Anthony DiMambro is a teacher with and co-director of the Suzuki Music Academy of Michigan – a highly acclaimed community music program for instrumental music education in the Metro-Detroit area. Anthony also teaches with the Kithara Project in Detroit. Kithara Project provides community-based and tuition-free classical guitar education to children and youth in neglected communities in the US and Mexico. Sharing his expertise and leading young guitarists to become accomplished musicians is a strong passion for Anthony, who has been a celebrated guest clinician at a number of festivals and Suzuki Institutes.

Ben Chapman studied classical guitar performance with Brian Roberts at Wayne
State University and graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Music (with honors). Continuing his studies at Wayne with Roberts, and later with Scott Walter, he earned his Master of Music in instrumental performance for classical guitar in 2025. Currently, he teaches for Kithara Project, alongside Anthony DiMambro, and for
Orion Music Studio. He also serves as Vice President of the Classical Guitar Society
of Michigan.
